A Gift for the Birds

A new day has dawned at the Odom house. The time came long ago for Caroline to give up her pacifier, or Pappy as she calls it, but she is very much attached to this little item. Yesterday was the day! Before we went to dancing lessons, we went outside because a mommy bird brought Caroline's mommy a message. The mommy bird needed all of Caroline's pappys for her baby birds. Well, since Caroline is all about Diego she was all for helping out the animals (those of you with small children know who Diego is). She said she wanted to help the baby birds and wanted to give them her pappys. So, we went outside and placed the pappys, one at a time, in the bird feeder. I told her that if the pappys were still there when we got back from dance she could keep them. If they were gone, the mommy bird thought they would be perfect for her babies & she would take them away. Well, wouldn't you know, the mommy bird wanted her pappys! We talked about helping out others and helping out animals and she totally agreed.

I had an awful feeling that she would want the birds to bring them back, but she was so excited that the mommy bird wanted her gift! Whew, that went over far better than Troy & I had expected. We dreaded last night, but she did great. I say great because she didn't moan and scream for her pappys; she did wake up hourly and had trouble falling back asleep though. So, night one is down and hopefully tonight will be better. She is napping now and didn't even ask for her pappys!

Side note: Hayes has a little bird that sings when you push his tummy. This morning Troy pushed the tummy of the bird and it started to sing. We thought Caroline was asleep, but as soon as the bird started to sing, she jumped out of bed and started squealing in excitement, "The birdie is bringing my pappy back". We had to show her it was just a toy and the baby birds still needed her pappys. It was hilarious!!!

We were heading out and Caroline stopped all by herself and started waving to her pappys. She told them to 'be sweet to the birdies'. It was truly the sweetest thing and she was being such a big girl! We are so proud.
